introducing our july pursuit: hydration
Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it. — Lao Tzu
There are a few things when it comes to the topic of hydration that are common knowledge: you need to drink water every day and after times of extra exertion (i.e. a workout for example), you should be gulping down plenty of extra ounces. Maybe you even knew that about ¾ of Americans are dehydrated. And while drinking more water is the obvious answer when it comes to steps to take to be hydrated, what about all of the other ways you can hydrate your body’s cells? With that question in mind, we bring you this month’s Pursuit: Hydration.
During the month of July, we’re shifting our focus to hydration. From how dehydration can cause fatigue to the importance of getting enough fluids to enhance physical performance to the great debate on whether or not you should be adding supplements to your water, we’re covering it all. As we move through the next few weeks, consider implementing one or a few of these hydration tips. It’s our goal that we can all feel just a little bit better and more hydrated come the end of the month.
Here are this month’s hydration tips:
-
Don't wait till you're thirsty to drink. By the time you feel thirsty, you're already slightly dehydrated.
-
Drink 20oz of water first thing in the morning.
-
If it feels “boring” to drink plain water, add some flavor–think electrolyte packets with the added elements of things like salt and potassium.
-
Eat water-rich fruits and vegetables.
-
Be aware of the signs of dehydration.
-
Limit alcohol and caffeine intake.
